Workshop: Hand-building Ceramics 9/13 & 9/20, 5pm: Hand-building Organic Shapes (Location: Studio 23)

Spend two creative days exploring the playful, sculptural world of organic ceramic forms. Design and build your own collection of one-of-a-kind pieces—from vases, vessels, and bowls to sculptural forms or even a whimsical birdhouse. This class is all about discovering shape, texture, and personality while working at your own pace.

On the first day, learn hand-building basics using slabs, coils, and other techniques to create balanced, functional, or purely sculptural forms. Experiment with shaping, joining, carving, stamping, texture tools, and surface treatments to give each piece its own character. Let your ideas evolve as you explore what happens when you push beyond traditional forms and embrace organic shapes.

The second day focuses on finishing techniques: glazing, surface design, underglaze painting, and color choices that complement your forms. Explore how different finishes interact with texture, curves, and unexpected shapes to create pieces that feel intentional and distinctly yours.

Ideal for total beginners and returning makers alike. All materials and firing included—just show up, get your hands in the clay, and enjoy the process. Leave with a collection of unique finished pieces and new skills to keep your clay journey going.
